Engaging Maine in the New Space Economy

The Maine Space Complex will be the focus of a free 1-hour presentation on March 25 during the 2023 Maine Science Festival in Bangor. Explaining the vision for the complex will be Dr. Terry Shehata, executive director of the Maine Space Grant Consortium, and Dr. Ali Abedi, professor of electrical and computer engineering at UMaine.

Shehata and Abedi will describe efforts to position Maine in the new space economy as a leader in launching low-cost small satellites into polar orbits using small, low-cost launch vehicles. They will outline a coordinated effort to leverage Maine’s research, education, and business assets toward this goal.

“The Maine Space Complex: Engage Maine in the New Space Economy” will be moderated by UMaine’s Dr. John Thompson and is sponsored by FMI, a Spirit AeroSystems company. The session is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor. See the Maine Science Festival website for more information.
